An inviting website to flourish the Web3 community

SeeDAO, a decentralized community rooted in Web3, has grown significantly in just two years, becoming a large family with 10,000 members from all over the world. As part of this growth, I had the exciting opportunity to contribute to designing our official website for the launch of the PFP NFT series named SEED.
This project kicked off in June and successfully launched in August 2023.Credit to XI, the visual artist who designed the SEED NFT series, for the UI elements he designed.

My Role

Web designer
In this project, I collaborated closely with a visual designing team led by Xi who focused on creating a series of 10,000 NFT PFPs for our community.

I was responsible for the website's design and user experience, including content creation, structuring information, and features defining and optimizing layouts for both desktop and mobile versions.
Creating a Positive Loop:

Growing the Brand & Making NFTs More Valuable

The US mobile photo editing market is crowded with popular brands that have built strong loyalty, and modern smartphones meet both casual and professional needs well. Our research shows that younger people value authenticity, making heavily edited photos less appealing.
Expand Brand Presence
Our first goal is to increase awareness of our brand, aiming to attract more people and subsequently grow our membership.
Increase NFT Value
This increase in value is not just beneficial for current members—who may see a return on their involvement with our NFTs—but it also makes our community more appealing to potential new members.

Those Who Know The Least & Those Who Use The Most

Our business goals have helped us pinpoint two primary types of users. They have different levels of comfort with technology and different reasons for using our website.
Web3 Newbie
Who is new to blockchain and Web3 and excited about exploring the creative side of it.
Every time I try to get started, I feel lost in all the technical jargon.

I need a simple way to track my contributions and see how they translate into rewards and NFTs.
A Layman-Friendly Web3 Community

Make The Site Feel Inviting and Easy to Understand

Web3 is still being built. It really resides in an experimental phase and there aren’t many use cases yet and it’s still pretty hard to understand what it could exactly do and change. All the new terms can scare off anyone just starting. In designing the user journey and writing about our community's objectives and rules for the website,  I ensured everything was simple, accessible, and adaptable for future updates.

Simplify

Use infographics and jargon free script to simplify information.
Improved how we display the link between membership levels and avatar colors.

Accessible

Offer handy links for external learning resources and an onboarding landing page for anyone who's confused or curious to learn more.

Scalable

Provide Notion links for frequently updating information atop the Q&A section.

Display  Contributions to Foster a Feeling of Achievement

SeeDAO is run by over 100 core members who work together without central control. Before, members could only check the credits they got for their help through a document updated once a month, which wasn't very convenient.

We created a dashboard, inspired by video games, where members can see their status, NFTs, and SBTs they've earned and .  It's a way to show off their contributions with pride and

Finding Common Ground Between the Ideal and the Feasible

When designing the gallery to showcase PFP NFTs, the NFT designer proposed combining clothing and front decorations into a single category named 'Style.' Although I pointed out that users tend to separate them as distinct identifiers, the designer insisted on presenting these elements as a cohesive unit.

Along with it, the frontend developer implemented a filtering system that identified various clothing and decoration combinations using numbers. This approach resulted in an overly lengthy category list while no one could tell the meaning of the numbers.
To simplify things, I proposed adding an extra filter under the 'Style' category. This let users quickly choose a style with one click and also offered the option of a more detailed selection through the secondary filter

After the Launch

The website launch, alongside the SEED NFT release, marked SeeDAO's grand entrance into the global Web3 community, moving beyond just Chinese-speaking circles.

Despite the lows in the Web3 world, SeeDAO's community has grown by nearly 1k since the launch. Plus, this distinctive and appealing NFT series has also seen an increase in value.
